YOU EXHAUSTED isn’t helping anyone.
An actor is like an athlete – You need to be in PRIME PHYSICAL CONDITION.
This doesn’t mean you need to run marathons.
You don’t need to be a size 2.
You don’t have to have a perfect six pack.
But what you shouldn’t be is SO DAMN TIRED…
…ALL THE DAMN TIME.
Because you need MAD ENERGY to create.
You need to LOOK YOUR BEST.
You need to be HYPER FOCUSED…
…ready to tackle EACH AND EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
You need people to say about you…
“I LIKE THAT ACTOR’S ENERGY.”
And NO ONE is saying that about YOU if you’re sleepy.
So how do you fix this sleep problem?
I mean, you’re so busy, of course you’re tired.
You have acting class.
You have a day job.
You have a social life.
You have auditions when you can get them.
So you think to yourself:
Less sleep = Getting more done.
You NEED that sleep.
Here are five ways to make sure you get it:
#1: KEEP A ROUTINE
Try to go to bed at around the same time every night. Read a book. No technology an hour before bed. Take a bath. You know the rules. Follow them.
#2: DON’T DRINK TOO MUCH alcohol or eat too much food right before bedtime.
Booze and rich food right before bed ensures a crappy night’s sleep.
#3: WHEN YOU’RE DONE, YOU’RE DONE
Didn’t get to everything on your list today? That’s OK! You can get back on it tomorrow. Go to bed! Let it go.
#4: LISTEN TO MEDITATION RECORDINGS
Do you have a hard time FALLING ASLEEP because your mind is racing? You’re not alone. Find a meditation recording specifically designed for sleep. There are many great FREE sleep meditations offered on line.
#5: DECLARE TO YOURSELF THAT “ENOUGH SLEEP IS NON-NEGOTIABLE” You make sure you eat. You make sure you drink water. Give that same attention to your sleep. If someone asks you to go out at 11 PM and you know you have to be up the next morning at 6:00, say “No!” Treat your sleep schedule like a job you don’t want to get fired from. Take care of it. Be good to it. It’s really important!
Do you feel a little like we are your Mommy?
We’re OK with that.
Go to bed, sweetie.
